For almost 40 years, The Car Book has been a vital guide for car buyers trying to make a smart and sensible decision about which vehicle to invest in. The company carefully evaluates vehicles across nine criteria: crash tests, safety features, rollover, preventative maintenance, repair costs, warranty, fuel economy, complaints and insurance, with the evaluation’s heaviest emphasis on driver and passenger safety.
The Hyundai Genesis and Hyundai Sonata were both honored with The Car Book’s 2016 “BEST BET” recognition. The Car Book has always selected vehicles for this recognition based on their responsiveness to the performance and safety needs and wants of the American car consumer.
Jack Gillis, author of The Car Book, said Hyundai was an absolute standout in this category.
“Hyundai continues to exceed customer expectations in terms of build quality and standard features,” Gillis said. “By offering vehicles that respond to the safety and performance needs of today’s consumers, Hyundai continues to make a significant contribution to improving the market choices for the American car buyer.”
The Genesis is a pure expression of modern design, with a sleek, upscale appearance that gives both a premium feel and the simple harmonious aesthetics that have become Hyundai’s signature. The “modern Hyundai look” is on full display with sharp touches like the striking hexagonal front grille and the dynamic crease running along the flanks of the Genesis giving it a dramatic kinetic elegance.
But the relative affordability of the Genesis makes it a one of a kind offering in the midsize luxury sedan market, one that was awarded Consumer Guide® Automotive’s “Best Buy” award. Brandon Ramirez, senior group manager, product planning, Hyundai Motor America, says the aesthetic and performance value packed into the Genesis are the reason why it won.
The 2016 Sonata added even more safety equipment, making Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) functionality available to models previously equipped with Forward Collision Warning (FCW). Standard safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System; a driver’s side blind-spot mirror; seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag; four-wheel disc brakes and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist; and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with indicators for each tire.
“The BEST BET recognition from The Car Book demonstrates our emphasis on safety and performance with bold styling and advanced technologies across our sedan lineup,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Within the crowded sedan segment today, we strive to deliver cars that are ‘better’ in every aspect, to win over the needs of car buyers—from better safety to better performance. This is a promise we will continue to deliver to our customers.”
