The 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show witnessed the dramatic unveiling of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra. The sixth generation of the undisputed leader of the compact car category boasted elegant appearance and performance inspired by the concept of “dynamic precision” — the product of close collaboration between Hyundai designers and engineers.
The result was a unique blend of next-level styling and pragmatic aerodynamics that lowers wind resistance and raises pulses, and the assertive, aerodynamic design and upscale stylistic elements of the new Elantra made it an instant favorite with the automotive press.
Now, the stylistically dynamic 2017 Hyundai Elantra has received the 2016 International Design Excellence (IDEA®) Bronze award in the Automotive & Transportation 2016 Category.
Jury Chair Cameron Campbell, IDSA, led a team of global design experts from June 3 to 6 at the iconic Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI to judge more than 600 finalists. In the crowded compact car segment, the Elantra won for its outstanding and unique design.
“I value the critical discussions with my peers from diverse disciplines in defining the best of design,” Campbell said.
IDEA® is a premier international design competition that recognizes and promotes design excellence across a broad spectrum of design-based industries and disciplines conducted annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, said that the recognition of Hyundai’s revolutionary “dynamic precision” concept was a validation of generations of dedication by expert Hyundai designers.
“This top honor for the 2017 Elantra shows that Hyundai is committed to creating bold and extraordinary designs,” Schreyer said. “This award for the 2017 Elantra makes us proud and is a great recognition for our design leadership.”
The distinctive character of the Elantra is encapsulated by Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille, which projects aggressive character, especially in conjunction with one of the many dramatic lighting options, like HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Lights
The Elantra’s interior is as impressive as the exterior, epitomizing a “modern driver-oriented design” that features intuitive interfaces, roomier interiors, premium materials and first-class technology features that maximize comfort and connectivity. The attractive, soft-touch materials integrated into key touch points of the fresh, contemporary interior design make the passenger cabin more inviting and comfortable for everybody inside, but the obvious focus is maximizing the driving experience.
